The Government is consulting on ways to tackle the issue of pavement parking. The consultation considers three options:
- whether to improve and continue using the current system, under which local authorities can already issue traffic regulation orders to prohibit pavement parking;
- whether to give local authorities (in our case, Mid Sussex District Council) power to issue fines for unnecessary obstruction of the pavement; or
- whether to legislate to ban pavement parking, except where it is specifically allowed. This is the system that applies in London.
The consultation document sets out the current position and the proposals on more detail, and tells you how you can respond. The consultation is open until the 22nd November 2020.
