Ashurst Wood Village Council
Ashurst Wood Village Council is the local council covering the civil parish of Ashurst Wood, which lies within the district of Mid Sussex and the County of West Sussex. It was established as Ashurst Wood Parish Council in April 2000, becoming Ashurst Wood Village Council on the 1st January 2016.
The Council serves a community of approximately 1900 residents. It is made up of nine Councillors who are elected for a term of four years. Councillors serve until the next election, which will be in May 2023. Councillors are not paid for their term in office, but receive reimbursement of some expenses.The Council works to protect and improve the village environment and facilities for the benefit of the community.

The Council's office is next to the Village Centre in Maypole Road. It is open Monday to Thursday, 9.00-1.00pm. Visitors to the office are asked to respect social distancing rules, use sanitiser and wear face masks.

About Ashurst Wood
Ashurst Wood is a village located to the far north of the County of West Sussex, close to the border with East Sussex. The name Ashurst Wood (Aesehyrst Wilde) dates back to medieval times (1164) when it referred to an area of common or waste land at the top of Wall Hill. There was no village then.
The Manors of Shovelstrode to the north and Brambletye to the south are recorded in the Domesday Book (1086). They were linked by a trackway and Ashurst Wood lies at the junction of this trackway and an ancient ridgeway track (Hammerwood Road – Cansiron Lane and beyond) at least 5000 years old.
In the new Millennium Ashurst Wood acquired its own Parish Council (changed to Village Council in 2016) . Now, although village life has changed, the villagers can enjoy the inheritance of some beautiful old buildings and can walk the ancient trackways.

The 2001 Census recorded 665 households in the Village, with a population of 1771.
The 2011 Census recorded that the number of households had risen to 723 and the population to 1833.
By the end of 2021 the number of dwellings in the village was 750.
